Legal Assistance


The Legal Assistance program provides access for older adults of the Lowcountry to obtain legal counsel for civil legal matters. Adults aged 60 and older may obtain a variety of legal services with an attorney who will provided at minimum an initial consultation, at no cost to the senior. To deliver legal assistance services, the Lowcountry Area Agency on Aging contracts with local legal services providers. 

Legal assistance services funded under the Older Americans Act are targeted for seniors with the greatest social or economic need and are available for legal issues such as those related to:

·         Income

·         Protective Services

·         Healthcare

·         Defense of Guardianship

·         Long-term care

·         Abuse

·         Nutrition

·         Neglect

·         Housing

·         Age discrimination

·         Utilities
